Anna Elizabeth "Alice" Sterkel, 87, of Gloucester Point, Va., formerly of Berthoud, died Sept. 25, 1996, at Regency Health Care Center in Gloucester Point.

She was born July 20, 1909, in Russia, to George and Amelia "Molly" Cedar Hohnstein.

She married Henry Sterkel on Nov. 29, 1927, in Fort Collins.

A homemaker all of her life, she enjoyed flower gardening and yard work.

She lived in the Berthoud and Johnstown areas most of her life. She moved to Gloucester Point 3 1/2 years ago.

She is survived by her son Robert Henry Sterkel and his wife Irene M. of Platteville; a daughter Barbara Ann Hoare of Wicomico, Va.; a brother Harold Hohnstein and wife Lucille of Gainesville, Va.; two sisters Christina Sterkel of Loveland and Helen Schmidt and her husband Henry of Portland, Ore.; 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Sterkel, who died Dec. 14, 1981, and a daughter Mary Ellen Sandler who died in September 1978.

Viewing is 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday at the Kibbey-Fishburn Funeral Home with the family present 3:30-5 p.m., 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday and following the service.

The service will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Kibbey-Fishburn Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Arthur Orth of the First Congregational Church officiating. Burial will be in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Berthoud.

Contributions may be sent to the American Cancer Society, in care of Mrs. G. Edward Mowry, 7274 Joseph Lewis Road, Hayes, Va., 23072.
