Henry Ness, father of George Ness, caretaker of the city's filter beds just south of Eldorado, died suddenly within a few moments after retiring last night.

Ness, who lives with his wife and son, resided in one of the houses at the city filtration beds and was a man who had reached the age of three score years, He was in his usual health yesterday and passed a part of the day in assisting to set fence posts and during the afternoon suffered a slight sprain of the back. This gave him some pain and annoyance during the evening, but otherwise he seemed in his usual health. He ate a hearty supper and at 8 o'clock retired to bed for the night. Ten minutes later a member of the family on entering his room discovered him dead. Heart failure, superinduced by his advanced years and the injury sustained during the day is what caused his death.

Mr. Ness was born on April 8, 1848, and had resided all his life in the vicinity of Altoona, being well and favorably known in this city. He was a member of the German Brethern church of Carson valley and is survived by his wife and one son, George, at home. He is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Charles Snyder of Huntingdon, and Mrs. Lizzie Root of Bellwood, and one brother, James S. Ness of near Bellwood.
