T Melvin Bishop was a Sheriff 1936 - 1940, a lawyer, then a member of Mississippi House of Representatives 1972 - 1976. He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 497, was a published gospel songwriter with Stamps-Baxter Music. The authored his autobiography, "Memoirs of a fool / by "T Modle" Bishop" early in his career.
He was very tall well over 6 foot and his wife Minnie was not even 5 foot tall.

MENDENHALL - Former state Rep. Tilman Melvin "T-model", Bishop, 80, died Monday [April 4, 1983] at Doctors Hospital in Jackson [MS] following a lengthy illness. Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mims Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel in Magee with burial in Kennedy Springs Cemetery in Simpson County.
Bishop represented Simpson County in the House of Representatives between 1972 and 1976. He was also Sheriff of Simpson County between 1936 and 1940.
He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 497, and was a member of the Scottish Rite and the Shiners. He was also a member of Woodmen of the World, the Simpson County and Mississippi State Bar. He was a retired lawyer.
Survivors include daughters, Mrs. Dolvis Stearmer of Riverside, Calif., Mrs. Peggy Stringer and Mrs. Lois Gates, both of Biloxi [MS]; sons, John L. Bishop of Emporia, Kan., Walter Bishop of Prentiss [MS] and Webster Bishop of Mendenhall [MS]; brother, George Bishop of Magee [MS]; sister, Mrs. Lola Canoy of Magee [MS]; 24 grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren.
