Jefferson City Post-Tribune, October 29, 1997:

Shirley Jeanne Markway, 74, Jefferson City, died Tuesday at St. Marys Health Center. She was born Feb. 22, 1923, in Milan, a daughter of Earl and Alpha Jones Cleeton. She was married Jan. 8, 1944, in Jefferson City, to Ulysses Albert "Pete" Markway, who died July 2, 1991.

She worked at West Gate Lanes for 30 years, retiring in 1993 as daytime coordinator, and was a volunteer at St. Peter Catholic School. She was a founding instructor for youth bowling and assister the Sheltered Workshop bowling program. She was a member of teh Jefferson City Women's Bowling Assication Board of Directors and was inducted into the Jefferson City Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 1995. The Jefferson City Council recognized her contributions to the city's youth with a "key to the city" in 1996.

Survivors include: two daughters, Becky Bell and Susie Becker, both of Lewisville, Texas; one son, Bob Markway, Jefferson City; one brother, Doug Harl, Sandia, Texas; and six grandchildren.

Services will be at noon Friday at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home. Sister Anita Brenek will officiate. Private burial will be in the mausoleum at Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Sheltered Workshop or Meals on Wheels
