Shirley I. Christian, age 84, of Bagdad, FL, passed away Thursday January 26, 2012. She was born April 18, 1927 in Spirit Lake, Idaho to the late Elbert E. Lewis and Vesta Smith Lewis.

Shirley worked as a welders helper in the shipyard and sold war bonds during WWII, she also worked as a telephone operator, and was locally the manager of the lunchroom program at Bagdad Elementary School. She enjoyed knitting, sewing and was a true seamstress, having made wedding dresses along with other apparel, lastly she enjoyed gardening.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Harold Christian.

Survivors include her beloved husband of 66 years, Rafael "Dago" Christian; two daughters, Shirleen Nowak of Edmondton, KY and Beth Dalton of Milton, FL; a brother, J.R. Tanta of Washington; a sister, Georgiana Smith of Cantonment; 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; and a good friend and caretaker for several years, Faith Daw.

Funeral services will be Tuesday January 31, 2012 at 10 AM at the Chapel of National Cremation & Burial Society. Interment will follow in Memory Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday January 30, 2012 from 6 until 8 PM.

National Cremation & Burial Society of Milton has charge of the arrangements.
