Born to William and Mary Alice Collins, Sr., on July 6, 1933 in Polk County, Florida, Bill was the youngest of three children.
During his 33 years in the Navy, he was awarded the Navy Achievement Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Good Conduct Medal with 1 star, Navy Battle "E", Vietnam Service Medal with 2 stars, and Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation Gallantry Cross Color.
A devout Christian, Bill was a member of the Orange Park Church of the Nazarene for 27 years, a big supporter of FSU, and a member of numerous bowling leagues.
He is survived by his loving wife Clara, 2 sisters, Dorothy (Calvin) Gilbert and Celeste Carey, 2 children, Thomas (Debra) Collins and Catheryn (Kenneth) Howard, 2 grandchildren, Samantha (Robert) Payne and Annika Marcy Collins, 2 great grandchildren, Sierra Rose Payne and Hunter Benjamin Payne, 1 sister-in-law, Evelyn Thrailkill, and various nieces and nephews.
The "Celebration of Life" memorial service will be held at the Orange Park Church of the Nazarene, 3212 Moody Ave, Orange Park, Florida, 32065, on February 5, 2009 at 7:00 P.M., Rev. Stan Wade, Sr. and Rev. Crystal Riner officiating. The graveside internment will be held February 6, 2009, at 10:30 A.M. at the Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, Florida 32218. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Orange Park Church of the Nazarene Building Fund. Arrangements by Hardage-Giddens Town and Country Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32205.
