Betty and her family moved to Mississippi in 1962, and then to Monticello in 1978, where she became an advocate of community service.
She was an effective force in working for charities. Her work with the Junior Auxiliary, the county wide beautification project of the Drew County Chamber of Commerce and the St. Jude fund raising were examples of her effectiveness. Perhaps the most outstanding effort was her direct influence in establishing the United Way Fund in Drew County. All this led to her being honored as the first Drew County Chamber of Commerce Woman of the Year.
In 1982, she was honored with the "Exceptional Accomplishment Award" presented by then Governor of Arkansas, former President Bill Clinton.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Lillian Ziemer; Robert J. Dwyer, Everett G. Attebury; and a daughter, Teresa Ann Dwyer.
