PAPE, Richard Edwin "Dick" Age 88, of Sugarcreek Twp., passed away Saturday, January 31, 2009 at his home. Dick was born October 22, 1920 in Dayton to Edith "Ida" (Bershman) and Richard Pape. He joined the Army a few months before WWII began and served as a combat non-commissioned officer in the famous 3rd Infantry Division, the Old Guard. He fought in the first U.S. Army actions and through most of the war. He holds the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 4 bronze service stars. His other medals include the Bronze Star Medal, and three Purple Heart Medals. Dick retired from Pennington Bread Company where he worked as a salesman. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife of 61 years, Evelyn Louise Pape, Aug. 16, 2005. Dick is survived by 4 sons Ronald Wilson & his wife Susan of Washington, Dick & his wife Eileen of Bellbrook, Bob of Bellbrook, Jim of Georgia, 2 daughters Barb Myron & her husband John of Bellbrook, Carol Swallow & her husband Mark of Bellbrook, grandchildren Britt Wilson, Joe Hoffman, Ann Kasperski, John Pape, Melissa Zadell & her husband Mark, Amanda Myron, Emily Pape, Lauren & Kevin Swallow, great-grandchildren Shastina, Chloe, Kayla, and Katie. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Thursday, February 5 and 11:00 am-12 noon Friday February 6 at Conner & Koch Funeral Home, 92 W. Franklin St. (S.R. 725), Bellbrook. Funeral services 12 noon Friday, February 6 at the funeral home. Bill Shadowens officiating. Interment in Bellbrook Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Freedom Alliance Scholarship Fund, 22570 Markey Court, Suite 240, Dullus, Virginia 20166, honoring the sons and daughters of our American heroes.
