Ex-Leominster Man Drowns; Thrown From Boat In NH Lake

OSSIPEE N. H. Oct 22—Arthur Brooks, 66, of this town a former resident of Leominster, Mass. was drowned yesterday in Duncan Lake here when he was thrown from a motorboat he was riding in with his 10-year-old grandson.

The boy, William Brooks, was rescued after he clung to the boat, by Leon Jones and Joseph Houle, both Ossipee fisherman, but Mr. Brooks drowned before the rescuers could reach him.

Was Testing Motor
Officials said Mr. Brooks was testing a new motor when the boar went out of control and dumped them into the water.

A native of Nova Scotia, Mr. Brooks lived in Leominster for a number of years and was employed by the Worcester Consolidated Street Railway as a motorman. He left Leominster some 30 years ago and went to Framingham and later was employed by the Boston and Worcester Railway. He moved to Ossipee after his retirement.

Survivors
He leaves his wife, Myrtle E. Galbraith Brooks; two sons, Raymond of this town and Morton of Algin, Ill.; two brothers, Ralph of Fitchburg, Mass., and Harry of Leominster; two sisters, Mrs. Lena Mager of Leominster and Mrs Lulu Greene of Middleboro, Mass.; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The Funeral will be held Wednesday morning at 10 am Ossipee with burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Leominster, at 2:30 p.m.
