Benjamin Franklin was the son of Lewis R Pumphrey and Polly Thompson. Franklin married Matilda Holt around 1846, and had four children, Margaret, Frances, William Fielding, and James R Pumphrey. Matilda and all four children met a tragic end while Franklin was away in the Civil War. They died of smallpox in Yellville, Arkansas in 1863.
Franklin then married Samantha Elizabeth Baker on November 23, 1868. They had six children, James, John W, William H, Mary, and the twins Bert and Bertha Pumphrey.
Note that the inscription on Franklin's headstone is incorrect. He could not have been born in 1813, but probably around 1822-23.
