Family lore is that Runion used to be spelled with a "Y" but was changed to an "i" because it was easier to write.
Edie, Ashby, Susie, Grover, John, Otis, Pete all went to Tiffin to find work.
Grover left in 1910 at the age of 19. He fell in love and married Grace. They had six kids.
Otis and John went to Illinois (John later than Otis).
Luther went to Colorado and later Missouri.
Anderson and Mag came often to Tiffin to visit the children. However Anderson never owned a car, and traveled by train to Tiffin. His first visit was in 1912; he stayed in 3 weeks. This was the winter after Grover married in May.
Anderson was five feet nine inches tall and well muscled. Mag was quite small. They rode horseback to church. They were part of a culture that stepped off in style, but the steps led to a horse! The church and school house were one and the same. The sanctuary had folding doors to make classes. During most of the time, the church was Primitive Hardshell Baptist.
Both Anderson III and Anderson Jr attended church and school there. Anderson III was quite active and loved singing. He was a deacon, and many came for advice. If anyone needed a doctor, it was 10 miles by horseback to Dr. Dodd. So Anderson would treat until the doctor came.
Anderson had a good saddle, worth a couple hundred dollars. Anderson III never had a buggy, always a horse. Dad paid a dollar to rent a buggy to attend the Baptist Associational meetings.

H.F. Fulk Says Graves of Hundreds of Old Residents Will Be Covered With Water
The following is a correct list of the male citizens of Brocks Gap, Va., as memorized by Hiram F. Fulk, at one time a resident of that place, who claim Brocks Gap as his birth place, having been born at the north end of Third Hill, and two hundred yards south east of Fulks Run post office, on opposite side of river.
Residents of Brocks Gap in 1855 and prior to 1855, who were sixteen years of age and over were respectively as follows:
Jackson Riddle, Benjamin Trumbo, Isaac Riddle, Michael Wine, James Turner, Jacob Turner, Samuel High, Jacob High, his son, Abraham Hoover, Emanuel Hoover, Isaac Shumanker, Tip Ford, Isaac Runion, Anderson Runion, George Runion, Levi Runion, Christian Fulk, Isaac Fulk, Hiram Fulk, James Fulk Jr., Josiah Fulk, George Fulk, Joshua Fulk, Christian Fulk Jr., all sons of Christian Fulk Sr., Abraham Brennaman Sr., Jacob Brennaman, Daniel Brennaman, and Abraham Brennaman Jr., Samuel Sprinkle, and Calvin Sprinkle, his son, Jacob Fawley Sr., Stephen Fawley, George Fawley Esq., George Fawley Esq., John Fawley, Jacob Fawley Jr., Peter Hess, John Hess, Abraham Hess, Raphael Hess, sons of Peter Hess, Isaac Ritchey, John Ritchey, Rev. Chrisley Wine, Emanuel Roadcap, Absolum Roadcap, George Roadcap, Stephen Roadcap, Isaac Roadcap, and Jacob Roadcap, sons of Emanuel Roadcap, John Hulvey, Philip Ritchey, Absolum Ritchey, Christian Bible, Michael Brake, Wells Heavner, Dr. Newham, Sinkney Miller, Henry Shickle, Richard Custer, George Custer and Berry Custer, sons of Richard Custer, Jake (Donahoe) Turner, Felty Bare, and John Bare, his son, Daniel Fulk, Adam Fulk Esq., Captain George Fulk, John Fulk, sons of Daniel Fulk, James Fitzwater, Conrad Custer, Solomon Hulvey, John Hulvey, Christian Runion, John C. Miller, Adam Baker, Philip Baker.
I will now give seven generations of the Fulk Family commencing with John Fulk, Christian Fulk son of John Fulk, Isaac Fulk son of Christian Fulk, H.F. Fulk, son of Isaac Fulk, William Fulk, son of H.F. Fulk, Howard Fulk, son of William Fulk, How this includes the seven generatiions of which four are still living. John Fulk born 1760, died 1827, Christian Fulk, born 1790, died June 7, 1850, Isaac Fulk, born July 15, 1815, died June 15, 1885. The final resting place of the three are as follows: John Fulk in Fulks Grave Yard, Christian Fulk in Fawleys Graveyard, and Isaac Fulk at South end of Third Hill. All were born in Brocks Gap, except William, Howard and Howard Rell Fulk.
I notice in the Daily News Record of a move on hand to Dam up Brocks Gap with a hundred or more feet of water. Will the good people of Brocks Gap submit to anything of this kind? Would they allow their lands and homes to be destroyed, and more precinct than that, would they allow their great grandparents, their grandparents, and friends who are resting beneath the sod of Brocks Gap, to be covered with a body of water, I say NO!
Brocks Gap is my birth place although I left there fifty eight years ago and have not forgotten the good hospitable people of Brocks Gap, and have great respect for my dear old fore fathers, it is not only the people of Brocks Gap that should fight this but the whole United States should oppose such a dastardly move. The Almighty has given this to the people of Brocks Gap and I hope they will continue to hold their homes peacefully, and call their homes their own.
Respectfully,
H.F. Fulk
