Ella married Charles Hubert Davis in Preston county, West Virginia on April 12, 1903 and they had one daughter together before he died in 1904. She then married George Michael Layton and they had several children together. Ella died on April 5, 1982 in Grafton, West Virginia when she was 96 years old.
