Florence Evelyn Adams June 1, 1903 - March 27, 2007
Born June 1, 1903 in Trent, South Dakota she was the youngest of four children. Her father was a station agent for the Milwaukee RR, and her mother's family built the first frame house in that part of South Dakota.

She graduated from Trent High School and Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa in 1925 where she pursued a degree in education.

After graduation she began her elementary teaching career in Pisgah, Iowa where she met and married Harry Emmerson, a high school teacher and coach. They became the parents of two children, Dan and Lynn, and settled in Sioux City, Iowa.

For many years Evelyn supplemented the family income by teaching piano after school and on Saturdays. She lost her husband Harry to a massive heart attack while her children were young teenagers, and became the sole support of her family.

In 1959, Evelyn moved to Salinas and married an old family friend, Tom Adams. He had three adult children, Richard, Robert and Roberta. Their blended family now included five children, and seventeen grandchildren.

They were active members of the First Presbyterian Church serving as Sunday School Greeters for many years. They spent many hours square dancing, bowling and traveling. Evelyn continued her teaching career at Sherwood School, across the street from where they lived.

She also continued to explore her artistic endeavors in California. She met many friends through art classes, and was accomplished in both oils and pastels. Music was also a passion of hers, and spent many hours at the organ entertaining her grandchildren.

Ten years ago it became impossible for her to remain at home, and she became a resident at The Ridge on Iris Drive.
