Samuel is the son of Michael and Margaret Mary Busch Marx. He married Pheonna "Fannie" Schlenker on Feb. 2, 1853 in Wabash Co., IL. Their children: George L. Marx, Hester Elizabeth (Hershey), Clara (Geisler), Samuel Schlenker Marx, Mary Ellen (Seibert), Gideon S. Marx, Geinima B. (Fisher), Isaac Marx, Charles Henry Marx and Sarah Amanda (Seibert).

A Good Man Gone
Death of Mr. Samuel Marx, Monday Afternoon
After an illness of less than a week, although medical science was exhausted in the effort to prolong his life, Mr. Samuel Marx died at the family residence in Lancaster precinct. Monday afternoon at five o'clock. The funeral took place from the Lutheran church in Lancaster at ten o'clock, Wednesday morning, Rev. J.H. Walterick, of this city, preaching an appropriate and touching discourse. The body was laid to rest in the Lutheran cemetery near Lancaster, along line of sorrowing friends following the remains to the grave.
Mr Marx leaves a wife, three sons and four daughters surviving. The sons are Gideon, Henry and Isaac, and the daughters are Mrs. C.A. Hershey, Mrs. R.A. Seibert, Mrs. S.S. Seibert and Miss Belle Marx.
Samuel Marx was an honest, upright man, a good neighbor and a sincere christian gentleman. His age was 63 years, 8 months, 10 days. He was of German lineage, and was born near Lancaster, Pa., August 13, 1830. With his parents he came to Wabash county in 1836. He was married to Fannie Schlanker, February 2, 1853. He was sober and industrious, and by his energy and industry acquired a fair share of wealth, owning one of the best country places in the county. He was generous and hospitable and his friends were always welcome to his fireside. Politically he was a stanch and uncompromising Democrat. In religion he was a member of the Lutheran church. In his death the county loses one of its best citizens.
