PECKS MILL — Alice Avis Bryant, 91, of King Shoals, Pecks Mill, passed away Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009, at Honaker Funeral Home of Logan. Entombment will follow at Highland Memory Gardens in Godby. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Alice Avis Bryant, 91 of King Shoals, Pecks Mill, WV passed away Thursday February 5, 2009 at Logan Regional Medical Center surrounded by family and friends.
She was born January 5, 1918 at Verdunville, WV at what is now known as Avis Acres. She was the last member of the pioneer family of the late George R. and Cora Ferrell Avis. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 52 years, Sherwood Bryant, four brothers, Leslie Avis, Sr., Lawrence Avis, Leonard Avis and Okey Avis, a half-brother Thomas Edward Avis, a special nephew, Leslie Avis, Jr., five sisters, Lola Branch, Hazel Adkins, Mona Browning, Lucille Naugle and an infant sister Violet Avis, two half-sisters, Betty Jean Vance and Christine Mathis, a very special niece, Ramona "Bo" Scaggs and a great niece , Kimberly Avis.
A retired school teacher with thirty-eight years of service with the Logan County Board of Education, having last taught at the former Monaville Grade School. Alice loved teaching, caring for her flowers, was a homebody, loved her family and was always there for them. She found great joy in helping others out. Alice was also of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews and two great nieces Calisa (Jim) Pierce and Kathy Avis Hadjila of United Arab Emirates and additional great nieces and nephews.
