Excerpt -- Chester "Ray" Calvert, 91, of Kingwood, died Monday, Oct. 20, 2008, at Preston Memorial Hospital, with his loving family by his side. Chester was born July 3, 1917, in Sabraton, a son of the late Chester A. and Elizabeth Whetsell Calvert. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II. He worked as a manager for A&P Tea Company in Rowlesburg, Terra Alta and Masontown between the years 1948-1965. He was also owner of Western Auto and Calvert True Value Hardware, both in Terra Alta. He was a member of FOE #2391 for 59 years and served as their secretary for 15 consecutive years. He was a Methodist by faith. He is survived by two sons, Donald and David Calvert, both of Kingwood; two daughters, Dorothea Stanton of Albright and Elizabeth Messerly of Weirton; 8 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Kathleen Smith Calvert; two brothers, and a sister. Family and friends may call at the Browning Funeral Home in Kingwood from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday. Interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery, where military graveside rites will be conducted by Preston County VFW Posts and the Honor Guard from Camp Dawson.
