Services for Louis Jesse Estes, 90, lifelong resident of the Black Hills area will be at the united Methodist Church with the Rev. Rodney Gist officiating.Masaonic serves will be conducted by the Spearfish Lodge 18, AF&AM with John Hammond as acting worshipful master.

Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery under the direction of Fidler Funeral Chapel.

Estes died early Sunday October 15, 1972 at the Homestake Hospital in Lead, where he had been a patient since suffering a stroke at his home last Tuesday.
He was born September 17, 1882 at Este, Dakota Territory, near what is now Nemo the son of Hugh Pryor and Emma Jane (Sutherland) Estes and attended elementary school there. He then began working on his father's ranch and took part in the 1902 Roundup, the last major one in the state. After working a few years east of the Cheyenne River, he returned to the Nemo area where he began working for Homestake Mining Company in it lumber operation.

He married Mabel Burdick on June 30, 1918 in Rapid City. In 1921 they became the first settlers at Homestake's Moskee, Wyoming, lumber camp. The moved to Spearfish in 1940 when Homestake moved its sawmill operation there and he retired in 1950 as watchman of the mill.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for more than 50 years, also a member of Modern Woodmen of America, 1902 Cowboys and United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his widow and daughter, Mrs. Mandord (Joan) Foltz, both of Spearfish; a sister, Mrs. Marion (Edith) Wilson, Custer; four grandchildren, one great grandchild and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his twin daughters, Crete Louise and Anita Marie Estes, two brothers and two sisters.

A memorial has been established to the UnitedMethodist Church.
