La PORTE - Ollie J. Bailey, 79, La Porte, died at 7:30 p.m. Friday (Jan. 9, 2009) at his residence.

Mr. Bailey was born Aug. 2, 1929, in Ada, Ohio, to Roy and Betty (Rowe) Bailey.

In Knox, Ind., in 1948, he married Lola Blackburn, who survives.

He was a member of Meer Road United Baptist Church, Michigan City. He was owner of Bailey's Excavating for 45 years and had lived here for 60 years, coming from Jackson, Mich.

He was a member of La Porte American Legion Post and VFW Post for 46 years.

Mr. Bailey was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and a deacon of Meer Road Church.

He was a graduate of Cooper Street School in Jackson, Mich.

He was a loving and caring husband, father and enjoyed his grandchildren and driving a dozer. He will be greatly missed.

He leaves behind his wife, Lola, La Porte; four daughters, Dorothy Biller and Loretta (Steven) King, both of La Porte, Lois Kay Plotner and Mary Taylor, Michigan City; four sons, Tom Plotner, Monte Carlo, Calif. James Plotner, John Bailey and Rick (Brenda) Bailey, all of La Porte; several grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; one sister, May Flecher, Nashville, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded by his parents, one daughter, Barbara Sue Plotner, one son, Robert Plotner, two sisters and two brothers.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Essling Funeral Home, La Porte, with Pastor Fred Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Salem Cemetery. The La Porte Honor Guard will conduct military services at the cemetery.

Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Essling Funeral Home.
