Draper Fortney and his fraternal twin, Verner Peter Fortney, were born out of wedlock on 15 Sepember 1875 in Preston County, the sons of Mary Samantha "Mollie" Fortney & Albert W. Pell. Draper Fortney married Isa "Icy" Sigley on 7 Jun 1895 in Preston County. Draper and Isa had eight children, Effie (Fortney) Kidwell, Marion Francis Fortney, George Leonard "Dutch" Fortney, Elsie Eldora (Fortney) Phillips, Leslie "Jim" Fortney, Mildred Ethelyn "Midge" (Fortney) Hardman Koch, Freda Patricia (Fortney) Shahan, & a male child who died at birth.
