Mrs. Ed Smith of Mt. Herman Dies Monday

Mrs. Nola Alford Smith, wife of Edd [sic] Smith, Mt. Herman, La., passed away Monday night, March 10, in a local hospital. She was 62 years of age, having been born October 2, 1889, in Washington Parish….

Pallbearers were Bob Alford, Buddy Alford, Daunogh Alford, Nathan Smith, Hughey Miller and Denman Miller. Interment was in Bogue Chitto Cemetery, Hartman's of Tylertown in charge.

Mrs. Smith was a member of the Bogue Chitto [Baptist] church and was active in church work as long as her health permitted. She had been confined to her bed since April 1951. She was loved by all who knew her.

Surviving, besides the bereaved husband, are two sons, Earl and Hugh Smith, Mt. Herman; two daughters, Mrs. Lucille Graves of Franklinton, and Mrs. Eathel Lee Johnson, of Ellisville, Miss.; four sisters, Mrs. Leoda Smith, Tylertown; Mrs. Roxie Penton, Franklinton; Mrs. Lexie Schiffer [sic], of Georgia; and Mrs. Gussie Fortinberry, New Orleans; and five brothers, W.B. Alford, L.S. Alford, and I.L. Alford, Mt. Herman; G.K. Alford, Greensburg, La. and L.W. Alford of Waterboro, S.C.
