Henry was the grandson of John Frederick Hake and Catherina Crone. John Frederick Hake was born in 1759 and died in 1830. Catherina Crone Hake was born in 1763 and died in 1851.

Henry went to Ohio with his father, in about 1832. He served in the Civil War from Missouri, from the beginning to the end of war. Henry and Rachel first moved to Dent County, Missouri in about 1859, then to Hartville, Wright County, Missouri and lived there from about 1866, until his death in 1916.
