He was born in Millerstown on Oct. 20, 1917, son of the late William and Ethel Delancy Goodling.
Merle was a member of Hyner United Methodist church. He worked as a mechanic for the Pennsylvania Railroad for over 40 years, retiring in October 1978. He also served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, acquiring the status of 33rd degree Mason, and was also a member of the Williamsport Consistory.
Surviving are his daughter, Patricia (Daniel) Knarr of Spring Creek, Nev.; grandsons, Todd and Scott; great-granddaughter, Brynn; and his sister, Diane Yeater of Harrisburg.
Memorial services will be held at a later date and will be published when scheduled.
