Eddie Rue (Lessley) Byars of Van Buren went to her heavenly home on Monday, Feb. 9, 2009, at Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith. She was born Aug. 15, 1915, in Franklin County to Rufus and Toka Lessley.

She was married to David E. Byars for 56 years, and together they owned and operated the David E. Byars Clothing Store in Alma for 25 years.

She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church Alma and active in community affairs and the Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her parents, the Rufus Lessleys; six brothers; two sisters; and her husband, David.

She is survived by nieces, Doris Overbey of Van Buren, Sandra Oberle of North Little Rock and Mary Lynne Follis of Ozark; nephews, James Lessley of Alma, Larry Lessley of Mulberry and Bruce Lessley of Detroit; sisters-in-law, Marguerite Lessley (Mrs. Fermon) of Kilgore, Texas, and Signa Lessley (Mrs. Rufus B.) of Ozark; and numerous friends at Hopes Creek Retirement Center, where she lived for the past three years.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, at Ocker Funeral Home in Alma with burial at Alma City Cemetery in Alma.

The body may be viewed from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Larry, Frank and Robert Lessley, Michael and Ronald W. Ocker II and Edwin Dooley Jr.
