English King. He was born in Wessex England, as Ethelbert which is an Old English name meaning, “Noble Bright”. He was the third son of Æthelwulf and was crowned King of Kent after his father's death in 858 and as King of Wessex in 860. He died childless while on the throne in 866 and the kingship of the West Saxons was passed to his brother Æthelred.
