His Cenotaph is located at the former "Nahil" estate in Upper Marlboro where he was originally buried. His remains were move to Mt. Olivet Cemetery on Bladensburg Rd. leaving the cenotaph behind. He was a member of Virginia Legislature, Acting Secretary of War, and Commissioner of the General Land Office. Eliza Gaston Graham, his widow, gave land and money to St. Mary's Catholic Church in Upper Marlboro and its Mt. Carmel Cemetery upon her death in 1873.
