He was the son of Thomas Douglas Drew and Rachael Ogelsby. He enlisted in the Civil War on September 14, 1861 as a Corporal in Company K, 28th Regiment, Georgia Infantry. He was a casualty of the defense of Petersburg, Virgina between May and August of 1864.
