John wrote a letter to Julia Ferguson Oliver on August of 1948, with Grogan family history copied from a bible. At the time of the letter John was President of the Farmers Grain Dealers Association of Indiana in Lafayette, Indiana. The letter is as follows:
"August 25, 1948
Dear Cousin Julia:
I finally got around to coping the records in the old bible, they have not been kept to complete. You probably have seen all of my brothers and sisters. Mary and I are the only ones born in Indiana. Mary is the one that visited Marks girls a few years ago. By the time I grew up the folks did not talk so much there (their) relations, I do remember some of them talking about the Olivers and Eli Dunkel. I wish I could have met Grandpa and Grandma Grogan but I never did, in fact I never met brother Mark but about three times, he was married and had two children before I was born and lived out in Iowa all the time. I knew less about my Mother's folks tho. In 1912 we drove to Fort Wayne and visited a brother of hers, they had not seen each other in thirty years and he died just a week after we came home. I have all my children here in Benton Co. and I am going to try and keep them with me. Live is to short for families to be split up all the time. Write to me again cousin Julia and let me know how your daughter gets along with the family tree. I have three daughters and three sons and three grandsons." Yours John
