OBITUARY

Life is not a dream,
Nor is death a seem,
Then why should we sigh,
Or fear to die
And enter immortality?
It is written death "reigned from Adam" and so the pages dear to every home is the family record.
Susan W. Burney was born in Denison, Ohio January 3, 1865 and died April 14, 1922 at her home in Mansfield, Missouri. Her maiden name was Susan A. Welsh. By death of her mother, Susan was left an orphan at age 7. Her father died when she was 15, but Susan fell into good hands by three sisters in law. She was reared and educated graduating from the High School of St. Louis at age 18. Her life was divided between Ohio and Missouri.
In Springfield on September 27, 1887 she was married to George S. Burney. Dr. Putnam of the Presbyterian Church performed the ceremony.
To them have been born 4 delightful daughters: Ethel, Norma, Blanche and Hazel all of whom are now married. Mrs. Burney was a Christian from her childhood. At the age of 15 she sought and received the witness of the spirit and united with the church. To her the way of the Christian was a delight that extended even unto the golden sunset.
Companionship with her husband reached the standard of ideal and the honeymoon never waned. As a mother she was one with her children making for them the sunshine of a happy home.
The Eastern Star, of which she was a member, rendered a beautiful service followed by a funeral sermon. The funeral service was held at the home Sunday afternoon the whole town being present, a tribute to her sacred memory. Singing by the choir was sweet and especially Mrs. Burney's favorite, "God Will Take Care of You".
The floral display was beautiful. The evening train carried the body and family to Springfield for another funeral service by Dr. Bacon and burial in Hazelwood Cemetery. How delightful that her daughters could be present for a last look on their mother's sunny face and to share with their father the weight of sorrow in this sad hour. The sunshine of Susan Burney will shine on and the kisses of memory will sweeten the years to come.

Looked up Dennison and found this:
