She was born Nov. 20, 1931, in Hoopeston, Ill., to Charles and Lorena (Meadows) Cropper. She married Arnold Gene Adair on Feb. 4, 1950, in Rossville, Ill. He preceded her in death on May 15, 1998.
She also was preceded in death by two sons, Steven Adair and Charles David Adair; one grandson, Brian Adair; five brothers; and one sister.
Surviving are three sons, Doug (Nilsi) Adair of Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, Jim (Grace) Adair of Arlington Heights, Ill., and Jeff (Beth) Adair of Morton; seven grandchildren; one sister, Phylis Ostoin of Danville; and many nieces and nephews.
Evelyn was the cafeteria manager at Morton High School and later became the director of the school food service for Morton School District 709, retiring in 1988. After retiring, she worked nine years at The Confectionery Inc. in Morton.
She was a member of Grace Church in Morton, where she was involved with Christian Stewards, a fellowship group, and helped lead the GriefShare support group at the church.
Evelyn served as a Den Mother for Cub Scout Pack 85 for many years.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 23, 2010, at Grace Church in Morton, with Pastor Doug Habegger officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 22, at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home in Morton, and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in the Groveland Evangelical Mennonite Cemetery.
