Elmer Hodges, 619 Park Ave., died at 1:45 a.m. today in Memorial Hospital after an illness of six hours. He was born in Tippecanoe, Ind., July 25, 1881, and had lived in South Bend 38 years, coming here from Tippecanoe. In May, 1900, in Tippecanoe, he married Miss Ida Belle Swihart. She died in 1956. In 1958 he married Mrs. Hattie Korn, who survives. Mr. Hodges was a building contractor. Surviving besides the widow are a son, Durward of Bourbon, Ind., a daughter, Mrs. John Bringham of South Bend; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; two stepsons, Vernon Korn of Chicago, and Everett Korn of New York City; two stepdaughters, Mrs. John Middleton, of Chicago, and Mrs. John Thompson of Elkhart; three sisters, Mrs. Louella Sarber of Muncie, Mrs. Irene Croco of Argos, and Mrs. Clarence Campbell of South Bend. Friends may call after 7 p.m. today in the Forest G. Hay Funeral Home where services will be at 3:30 p.m. Sunday. Rev. Kenneth R. Hemphill, pastor of First Methodist Church, will officiate and burial will be in Southlawn Cemetery.
