Alex E. "Peck" Smith, 57 of 806 Boone Avenue, Ottumwa died suddenly this morning at 7:30 Friday 30 April 1948. shortly after reaching his place of work at the Barker Produce Company.
The son of John "Jack" Washington Smith and Nancy Ellen Cross, he was born in Wapello County, 12 January 1891. A resident of Ottumwa for the past 26 years; he was a member of the First Church of the open Bible. A veteran of World War 1, he had been an employee of the Barker Produce Company for 20 years. His wife, Grace, three stepchildren, survives Mr. Smith. Mrs. Reva Remier of Drakesville and Mrs. Claudine Simpson and Harold McCordell both of Ottumwa. Three brothers, Clyde M. Smith of Unionville, Iowa, Harry H. Smith of Blakesburg, Frank B. Smith of Ottumwa. Two sisters, Mrs. Amanda Gertrude Leonard of Ash Grove and Mrs. Grace Ellen Kelley of Ottumwa, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the Open Bible Church in charge will be Rev. T. Tousley of the Open Bible Church. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery, Lot#88 Prospect Hill.
