Harold Ross Confer, 81, of Avis, passed away Monday, February 16, 2009, at his home.

He was born January 5, 1928 in Jersey Shore, the son of Earl E. and Grace Newcomb Confer.

Harold was the husband of the former late Florence M. Lachat who passed in 1993, with whom he shared 43 years of marriage.

He retired in 1981 from Piper, after 26 years of service; he also worked for 11 years for the railroad in NYC.

Harold collected clocks, railroad memorabilia and Hess trucks.

He loved to travel with his wife and was Penn State football's #1 fan. Harold enjoyed Blue Grass Country music and working in his garden.

He is survived by three brothers, Frank N. of Lock Haven, Rodney W. of Jersey Shore and Cliff N. of Montgomery; and by nieces and nephews.

Harold was predeceased by two brothers, Richard K. and Howard, a sister Phyllis McCoy.

Family suggests memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, 1948 E. Third St., Williamsport, PA 17701.

Relatives and friends are invited to Harold's Life Celebration from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, February 19, 2009 at the Rearick-Carpenter Funeral Home, Ltd. "A Life Celebration Home," 1002 Allegheny St. His funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with Rev. David W. McCoy officiating. Burial will follow in Jersey Shore Cemetery.
