Jacob Wilson Hayes, 74, of Newburg, died Sunday night, Aug. 18, at University Hospital. A native of Gladesville, he was born Nov. 25, 1887, a son of the late Wellsworth and Margaret Bolyard Hayes. He was a member of the Crellin, Md. Methodist Church and a retired railroad engineer.
Survivors are the widow, Mrs. Hazel Stone Hayes; two daughters, Mrs. Mable Lantz of Crellin and Miss Sara Hayes of Newburg; one stepson, Elisha Stone of Kingwood; three stepdaughters, Mrs. Myrtle Smith and Mrs. Mollie Larue of Newport News, Va., and Mrs. Annette Cady of Val Pasa, Texas; 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Newburg Methodist Church with the Rev. Henry Lee and Rev. Berlin Wilhelm officiating. Interment was in Shay's Chapel Cemetery near Newburg.
