Harry Greene Bennett, 71, a resident of 104 Demere Oaks Circle, St. Simons, died at the Brunswick hospital early today after an extended illness.

He was a native of Macon and had been a resident of Glynn County for the past 54 years. He retired from Georgia Power Co. in 1972 after 38 years of service. He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church and was past member of the Church Council. He was a member of I.F.A. Club on St. Simons.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Modesta W. Bennett, St. Simons; two daughters, Mrs. Betty McCreery, Auburn, Ala., Miss Barbara Bennett, St. Simons; a sister, Mrs. Lena B. Corbett, Brunswick, three granddaughters and a grandson.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the St. James Lutheran Church with Rev. Jack Warner officiating. Interment will follow in Brunswick Memorial Park.

Active pallbearers will be F.H. Terkildsen, Jr., Carl Torkildsen, Bernard Phillips, James Attaway, Harry Ward, and Alan Head.

Honorary pallbearers will be Marion Echols, Ray Consta, Johnny Floyd, Henry Klimp, Olaf Losen, Jr., Fred Heinold, Fred Gude, Henry Niemeyer, Lionel Tester, J.T. Bennett, R.J. Luders, John Q. McMilian, J.F. Godwin, Dr. W.A. Snyder, Dr. W.O. Inman, Jr., Dr. Lana Shewey, and Ellis Roberts.

The body will remain in the funeral home and will be placed in the church an hour prior to services. The family will be at the residence.
