Daniel Edwin Winfield was born August 1883 in Orange County, New York and died 11 August 1924 in Russell County, Kansas.

He was raised in New York and started his married life there.  His 1st wife was MARY JANE WYANT (or WYATT).  They were married 16 August 1856 in Orange County, New York.  Their oldest son, HENRY GEORGE WINFIELD, was born 18 May 1857 in Orange County.

Daniel and Mary Jane migrated to Pennsylvania where their 2nd son, LAFAYETTE, was born in July of 1854.  JOHN E., their 3rd son, was born 12 December 1860.  Their 4th child was DANIEL WEBSTER WINFIELD, born 14 November 1862. The "Civil War" was fast approaching for our country and for the small Winfield family.  Daniel E. enlisted in Company A, 137th Infantry Regiment of Pennsylvania on 20 August 1862 and served until 02 June 1863.

While he was serving in the war, Mary Jane delivered Daniel Webster and died shortly thereafter.  Daniel returned from the war and placed at least two of his sons, if not all four of them, into an orphanage and then once again returned to the war.  He re-enlisted on 26 March 1864 in Company M, 3rd Heavy Artillery Regiment of Pennsylvania.  He was mustered out on 09 November 1865.

Daniel E. returned to Pennsylvania and married (2nd) Margaretta "Rheta" (Kilmer) Hill.  Rheta had just lost her 1st spouse, James Hill, to the Civil War.  Daniel E. and Rheta were married 16 November 1865 in Pennsylvania.  She brought to the marriage a son, John H. Hill (b. 1854).

Daniel E. and Rheta migrated to Russell County, Kansas arriving there before the 1875 Census.  Daniel E. was a founding member of the I.O.O.F. in Russell (14 August 1874) and was later elected as treasurer for the society. They lived in Russell County, Kansas until their deaths.
