RULE, Dec. 27 --(Spl)-- Funeral was held monday at the First Baptist church for Rev. J. F. Curry, 74, pioneer Baptist minister who died Saturday night at his home, following an illness of several years. Rev. C. A. Powell officated, with burial in Rule cemetery in charge of the P. E. Gauntt funeral home.
Rev. Mr. Curry was born in Mississippi July 15, 1869 and moved with his family to near Waco when a small boy. In 1894 he was married to Mattie Frances Osborn at McGregor and in 1910 moved to Rule, where he has lived since, with exception of a short time in Brownfield.
He was Haskell county Baptist missionary six years and the missionary at Brownfield. He was pastor of smaller churches in Haskell county for 30 years.
He is survived by his wife, 11 children, Mrs. Ed Cloud of Rule, Albert Curry of Dallas, Mrs. L. R. Williams of Rule, Joe Curry of Haskell, Charlie Curry of Lubbock, Mrs. Borden Davis of Tahoka, Mrs. James Cupp of littlefield; Mrs. Jess E. Whittington of Rule, John B. Curry of Los Angeles, Cpl William Roger Curry in the South Pacific and Mrs. Robert Darnell of Floydada; a sister, Mrs. Laura Osborn of Floydada; and 12 grandchildren.
