He was born in Petersburg Dec. 10, 1917, the son of Henry and Ethel Hinds Altig. He married Alberta Dunham in 1936 in Greenview.
Mr. Altig was a member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Petersburg, Menard VFW Post and Kirby Watkins American Legion Post. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was preceded in death by three sisters and one grandson.
Before his retirement, he was a mechanic at J.C. Penney for 11 years. Before that he was employed at Goodyear Tire Co.
