Former Area Resident
Dies In Fort Dodge
Former Mallard and Emmetsburg area resident Fred J. Jurgens of Fort Dodge died April 13 at Trinity Regional Hospital in Fort Dodge. He was 79.
Funeral services for Mr. Jurgens were held Saturday, April 16, from Bruce Memorial Chapel. The Rev. E. C. Rodehorst, Chaplain of Trinity Regional Hospital, officiated over services.
Burial was in North Lawn Cemetery, Fort Dodge.
Fred J. Jurgens was born in Jolley and attended rural schools near Mallard. In 1920 Nellie Reese and Fred Jurgens were married at Emmetsburg.
After their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Jurgens worked on a farm south of Mallard for four years and rented a farm for 12 years between Havelock and Mallard. The couple moved to a farm near Plover and lived there until purchasing their own farm between Mallard and Emmetsburg in 1941. Mr. Jurgens retired and the couple moved to Fort Dodge in 1963.
Surviving Mr. Jurgens are his wife, Nellie; sisters: Mrs. Erland Bergling of Wright, Minn., and Mrs. Hannah Williamson of Spring Arbor, Mich.; and brothers: William H., Albert M. and Herman T. Jurgens, all of St. James, Minn.
