Mr. Richard Albert Grant, Sr., was born on Thursday, August 24, 1911 to the late William Nelson Grant, Sr., and Mrs. Georgia Mitchell Grant.

He was united in holy matrimony to Miss Flora Frances Watkins of Montgomery, Alabama on Wednesday, July 9, 1941.

Deacon Richard A. Grant was the son of one of the founding members of Holt Street Baptist Church, Mrs. Georgia Mitchell Grant Hargrove and accepted Christ as his savior and joined the Holt Street Baptist Church in 1923 under the leadership of Rev. P.J. Watkins. He loved and respected the Church and worked very closely with all the ministers past and present until his illness. He served the Church as Deacon, Chairman of the Trustee Board, Young Peoples' Choir, Choir #2, Director of the Baptist Training Union, Assistant Superintedent of Sunday School, Church Clerk, Sunday School Teacher and Vice President of the Layman's League of the South East District Convention.

Deacon Grant's Motto was "Let the Work I Have Done Speak For Me"

Deacon Grant was an employee of the Atlanta Life Insurance Company as a Debit Manager for 44 years and worked closely with his wife, Mrs. Flora F. Grant until he retired with high honors. He was a World War II Veteran.

Deacon Grant is preceded in death by his parents, William Nelson Grant, Sr., and Georgia Mitchell Grant Hargrove, his first wife Mary Elizabeth Johnson Grant, second wife Jessie Atchinson / Miller Grant; brothers Leon C Grant, Herbert Grant, William Nelson Grant, Jr., and Willie Ross Mullins.

Deacon Grant departed this life on Friday July 24, 1992. He leaves to cherish his loving memory a loving and devoted wife, Mrs. Flora F. Grant; two daughters, Mrs. Georgia Adams of Las Vegas, Nevada and Mary E. Latimer, Detroit, Michigan; two sons, Mr. Jesse R. Grant, New Orleans, Louisiana and Richard A. Grant, Jr., Montgomery, Alabama; two son-in-laws, Mr. James Latimer and Mr. Walter Adams; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Lue Bertha Grant; one brother, Mr. Julius T. Hargrove and two sister-in-laws, Mrs. Emma Hargrove and Mrs. Dorothy Grant; four nieces, five nephews, sixteen grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, former sister-in-law Peggye Hargrove and other relatives and friends.
