Eleanor Boisseau Obituary
Eleanor Hooker Boisseau went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, May 3, 2005. She was born in Stuart, Va., daughter of the late Judge H. Lester Hooker and Nell Sanford Hooker; granddaughter of the late Rev. T. Ryland Sanford and Eleanor Sanford. She was also preceded in death by her son, Edward Hooker Boisseau; her husband, Edward Randolph Boisseau; her brother, H. Lester Hooker Jr.; and sister-in-law, Patricia Dorsey Hooker. She is survived by a daughter, Eleanor B. McGuire of Roanoke; son, J. Sanford Boisseau of Richmond. She is also survived by six granddaughters, Hallie, Leland, Wesley and Taylor Boisseau of Richmond, Deborah Conner and her husband, Randy of Roanoke and Kathryn Avery and her husband, Kendal of Richmond; and a grandson, C. Connor McGehee IV of Manassas; as well as seven great-grandchildren. She attended Thomas Jefferson High School and the College of William and Mary, where she was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority and the Old Guard. Mrs. Boisseau was asked by Governor Thomas B. Stanley to head the first Mothers March for Polio in Virginia. She was also one of the original members of the state to help start the "CARE" Project which raised money to be used to buy items that were desperately needed for children in Korea. As of 2004, she had the distinction of having the longest unbroken membership of 79 years at First Baptist Church. She belonged to the Gill Sunday School Class and was very actively involved in both through the years. Mrs. Boisseau was involved in many organizations: the Thomas Jefferson Junior Woman's Club, the Thomas Jefferson Woman's Club, the Tuckahoe Woman's Club, the Commonwealth Club and several guard clubs, the last being the Sleepy Hollow Garden Club. She was also a member of the Sunshine Circle of the Children's Hospital and was president several times. She had the distinction of being the only member to have three generations of one family belonging at one time. She was active in the Democratic Party and helped in numerous campaigns, but her family was the most important thing in her life. She was one of the first residents to move into the Cedarfield, a life care facility. She wrote the history which is proudly displayed in their library. In health care, all of the nurses, CNAs and the entire staff were exceptional and the family will always be grateful of the wonderful individual care and respect she received. The family will receive friends at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd., Thursday, May 5, from 4 to 8 p.m. and Friday, May 6, from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 7, at First Baptist Church. Interment Westhampton Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sunshine Circle of the Children's Hospital or to Brain Tumor Research at MCV.
