MRS. SUSIE ALLGOOD
Death came to Mrs. Susannah (Susie) Allgood, 80 at the family residence on Route 1, Decatur, Saturday, August 22, after an illness of some time. She was a native of Newton County, born March 21, 1879. Her parents were the late Si and Acie Dowell Vance. She was a member of the Beat Line Baptist Church, and was highly respected by a wide circle of friends.
Mrs. Allgood leaves three daughters, Mrs. Oren Smith of Decatur, Mrs. Benton Kelly of St. Louis, Mo., and Mrs. Bradley Dent of Jackson; four sons, Alvin of Lsa Cruces, N. Mex., Howard, Marshall and Jimmy Allgood, all of Detroit, Mich.; 23 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Milling of Decatur and Mrs. Maggie Addy of Union; a brother, T. H. Vance of Lake; two half-sisters, Mrs. Ozell Keith and Mrs. Acie Leach, both of Union; and two half-brothers, John Paul and Wilson Vance, both of Union.
Funeral rites were conducted at the Cross Roads Baptist Church, west of Decatur, at 3 p. m. Monday, August 24. The Rev. Clifton Gibbs, the Rev. Edward McDill, and the Rev. Marcus Smith were the officiants. Interment followed in the Cross Cemetery. Hutson Funeral Home of Newton directing.
Homer and Andrew Addy, Alton Milling, Charlie Allgood, S. B. Mayes, and George Sherffield served as the active pall bearers.
Many friends and relatives called at the family home, where the body lay in state, and attended the services.
