There is a record for the Civil War military headstone for James Allman of the 7th Illinois Infantry, Co. E. James Allman, of Atlanta (Logan County) Illinois, enlisted in July, 1861 and mustered out in July, 1865 at Louisville, Kentucky, having served 48 months. He received an invalid's pension in 1890 and his widow, Mary E., received a pension in 1903.

An 1888 GAR post record from Galena, Cherokee County, Kansas, states that he was born in 1842 in Logan County, Illinois. He was listed as a miner. The 1900 census shows him with his wife, Mary E., in Crawford County, Kansas. Mary E. was born in March, 1845 in Kentucky. They were married in 1887.
