AYNOR | Mr. Tolar Holiday Rabon, 84, of Tolar Road, left his earthly home Saturday, November 14, 2009 after a period of declining health, leaving behind his loving devoted wife and sweetheart of 63 years, Dorothy J. Alford Rabon.

Mr. Rabon was born August 26, 1925 in Cool Springs, a son of the late Marvin and Isadora Rabon. He was predeceased by his stepmother, Addie Rabon; his brothers, Grant, Sherwood, Burroughs, and Durham; his sisters, Freddie Squires and Victoria Martin; and his stepbrother, Ellie B. Young.

He was a quiet spoken man who lived his life humbly and with integrity as a southern gentleman with a spirit full of love. He called himself the "Hat Man" as he was never seen around town without one of his fedora hats. Other than his wife and family, his passions were fishing, farming, and keeping up with the weather. He enjoyed what his wife referred to as "cutting the block," which meant leaving home to drive by his farms and his fondly loved pond, which the family termed the "Glory Hole," followed by visiting the family business, then returning home to do the same routine later in the day.

As a young man Mr. Rabon was an airplane mechanic in the U.S. Navy. With only a grade school education and having only been married a few years, he and his wife Dorothy started their own business, T.H. Rabon's Garage of Aynor. The business is still operating, and is run by his son and daughter under the name of Rabon's Inc. He retired many years ago, but still checked on the business daily until his declining health prevented his visits.

He was a faithful member of Aynor First Baptist Church for over 60 years, where he served as a deacon for many terms. He was also a member of the American Legion Post No. 81 of Aynor. His absence will be greatly felt by his family, former business associates, and the community that he loved.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are five children, Larry Rabon and his wife, Sarah, Denny Carl Rabon and his wife, Brenda, Erroll Rabon and his wife, Vicki, and Clarissia R. Hardwick and her husband, Dean, all of Aynor, and Renita R. Chestnut and her husband, Cliff, of Longs; his "heart adopted" children, Ramona Crowe of Aynor and Kim Singleton of Conway; his grandchildren, Tabitha R. Strickland, Jeremy Rabon, Stephen Rabon, Alison R. Martin, Brandy J. Hughes, Kendal Jordan, Deana H. Jordan, Jenny Hardwick, Joshua Rabon, Mark Rabon, and Rebekah Rabon; his "heart adopted" grandchildren, Lisa C. Miccio, Lynn Crowe, Hannah Singleton, and John Perry Singleton; his great-grandchildren, Jesse Strickland, Bailey Strickland, Jordan Strickland, Kayla Strickland, Kilan Rabon, Rilee Rabon, Tayton Martin, Alyssa Martin, Josie Martin, Lucas Rabon, Tyler Rabon, Josh Rabon, Maxx Rabon, Lee Crowe, Brody Crowe, Taylor Miccio, and James Miccio; two half brothers, Calhoun Rabon and Winston Rabon; one stepsister, Dorothy Fox; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, November 16, 2009 at Aynor First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Glenn Johnson and the Rev. Gary Harrelson officiating. Burial will follow in the Aynor Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Sunday, November 15, 2009 at Johnson Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Aynor First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 651, Aynor, SC 29511; or to the Gideons International, P.O. Box 98, Aynor, SC 29511.
