VAN BUREN -- Charles E. Hatcher, 77, died early Saturday at the Caylor-Nickel Clinic at Bluffton after an illness of two and one-half years. He was a native of Van Buren and was a retired railroad worker.

Mr. Hatcher was a 32nd Degree Mason and served 40 years of continuous service 40 years of continuous service as an officer of Van Buren Masonic Lodge o. 711. He also was a member of the Scottish Rite of Fort Wayne, Eastern Star in Van Buren, and the Van Buren Methodist Church.

Survivors include the widow, Laura; one son, Dr. David D. Hatcher, Houston, Texas; two daughters, Mrs. Floyd Wescoe, Van Buren, and Mrs. Dean Shaffer, Rt. 6, Marion; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday at Van Buren Methodist church with the pastor, the Rev. John R. Parks, and the Rev. Joseph Hanawalt, Kokomo, officiating. Burial will be in Van Buren Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Ferguson Funeral Home at Van Buren after 7 p.m. today.
