The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Wilton A. Baker (ASN: 20342245), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the *** Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82d Airborne Division, on **** 1943, about one-half mile from *****. Under observed enemy rifle and machine gun fire Private Baker placed explosives on a bridge, demolishing it and rendering it useless to the enemy, contributing to the successful withdrawal of the Company to which he was attached.
