MRS. MARY ELIZABETH AREY
After months of suffering, death last night claimed Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Arey at the Arey home in Los Angeles, 541 South Cummings Street. She was surrounded by her loved ones who had been so anxious for her for many days and the end came in a peaceful sleep.
Though many knew that the end was not far distant still that ray of hope which always shines while there is life had encouraged many to believe that the useful life might be lengthened. Mrs. Arey was formerly of this city and is a member of one of the oldest pioneer families in the valley. Her people came to California when the great plains had to be crossed with teams of oxen and it was while California was yet a land of shadowy romance that the West family settled here.
Mrs. Arey was one of six children who have grown up here and who have become very well known in the community. She is the sister of Mrs. C. A. More and Mrs. W. H. Mee of this city, James West of Needles, T. J. West of Fresno and George West of San Bernardino.
Two sons, W. D. Yager and Harry Yager live in this city and there are also a number of nieces and nephews to mourn with the immediate family, Ralph J. Are, the husband, and a step-son, Alfred Arey in Los Angeles.
Mrs. Arey made San Bernardino her home until a number of years ago when she moved to the Angels City with Mr. Arey. While in this city, she lived at the family home on Ninth Street between A and B streets. The funeral services will be held here but the date was not announced until last night. The hearse of the Mark B. Shaw Company left for the city last night to bring the body here.
