Mrs. Bronte, 65, died Tuesday (Feb. 24, 2009) at her residence in The Villages, Fla., following a lengthy illness.
Shirley Ludeman was born Nov. 18, 1943, in Columbus, Wis. She married David O. Bronte on Aug. 7, 1965, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waterloo, Wis. They lived in St. Paul from 1965 to 1966; Rochester from 1966 to 2007; and Florida from 2007 until the present.
Mrs. Bronte was an elementary school teacher with School District 535 in Rochester, retiring in November 2005. In Florida she was a member of the Open Bible Church, and belonged to Christ Our Rock Lutheran Church in Rochester. She was a past member of the Rochester Water Ski Club, the snowmobile club, and the Rochester Education Association. She loved traveling, gardening, reading and spending time with her family, and was best known as the navigator.
Mr. Bronte, a retired salesman for Nabisco, survives.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by children, Chris (Denise) Bronte and Christie (Brad) LaPlante, both of Rochester, and Cynthia (Erik) Red Hill of Aberdeen, S.D.; grandchildren, Carson, Cashton and Makenna; and a brother, Denny (Debbi) Ludeman of Reeseville, Wis. She was preceded in death by two infant children; her parents; a sister, Joyce; and a brother, Larry.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Macken Funeral Home, and an hour before the service Saturday at the church.
Memorials are preferred to the family.
