Funeral services for Charles C. Modesitt, 69 years old. surveyor of Vigo county for 23 years, who died suddenly at 7 o'clock Friday night, will be held at 2 o'clock Friday night, will be held at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon at the Cross Funeral Home conducted by Rev. Thomas Mabley.
A lifelong resident of Vigo county, Mr. Modesitt succumbed to a heart attack at Union Hospital after having been ill 10 days with influenza at his farm home north of Terre Haute.
Modesitt was educated in the public schools of Vigo county, Wiley High School and was graduated from Rose Polytechnic Institute in the class of 1907.
He was a professional state registered engineer and began his public career in the county office as a deputy under former county surveyor, Herbert Anderson. He also was employed by the Pennsylvania Railroad Company and the Freeman-Riff Construction Company.
Active in democratic politics he was elected to the surveyor's office on that party's ticket. He was a member of the Exchange Club and the Methodist Church of North Terre Haute.
Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Agnes Modesitt; two daughters, Mrs. Margaret Stoker of Terre Haute and Mrs. Wendell Kibler of Anchorage, Alaska; three sons, Gilman, Terre Haute; Charles, who is now working on his PH.D. degree at Indiana University and Dale, a teacher in the Bloomington High School; four sisters, Mrs. Pansy Gleason of St Petersburg, Fla; Mrs. Bessie Snyder, Indianapolis; Mrs. John Crabb, Chicago and Mrs. Ellen Baysinger of Streator, Ill and nine grandchildren.
Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park.
