Obituary from The Jena Times Newspaper, February 25, 2009:
Garney Wilburn Beavers, 84, of Georgetown, passed from this life on Monday, February 16, 2009, at the Winn Parish Medical Center in Winnfield.
He was born April 16, 1924, at LeCompte, to the union of Wiley and Maude Beavers.
Garney was a hard working and loving father, retired from the oil industry and was a member of Georgetown United Pentecostal Church, which he helped to build, being a former deacon and Sunday School Superintendent.
Services were held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 19, at Georgetown United Pentecostal Church with the Revs. Donnell Spurgeon and Brian Montgomery officiating.
Interment followed in the Georgetown Cemetery under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Edna Evans; and three brothers, Calvin Beavers, Lionel Beavers, and Clyde Ray Beavers.
Survivors include three daughters Carolyn Cupit and husband Ronnie of Monroe, Myrtle Lasyone and husband Doyle of Winnfield, and Glenda Shelton and husband James of Georgetown; one son, Thurman Beavers and wife Brenda of Georgetown; ten grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Eula Mae Edwards and Gladys Traylor, both of Georgetown; and one brother, Troy Beavers of Haughton.
Pallbeareres were grandsons Gene Cupit, Dewayne Lasyone, Glenn Cupit, Damon Lasyone, Stacy Shelton, and Taylor Beavers.
Nephews and great-grandsons served as honorary pallbearers.
