Carol Lois Haertling, 74, of New Wells passed away Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009, at Landmark Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
She was born July 25, 1934, in Farrar, Mo., daughter of Rudolph and Louise Weibrecht Lorenz. She and Ruben Haertling were married Aug. 25, 1956, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Altenburg, Mo.
Carol was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Wells. She was baptized Aug. 5, 1934, at Evangelical Lutheran Church in Farrar, and confirmed April 10, 1949, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Altenburg.
She was well-known for her coffee cakes.
Loving survivors include her husband of 52 years; a son, Rodney Haertling of New Wells; a daughter, Carla (Kevin) Kasten; a grandson, Nicholas Kasten, all of Lorena, Texas; a sister, Brenda (Glen) Borgfield of Altenburg; many family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Delbert Lorenz; and a sister, Naomi "Mutz" Koch.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson and from 9:30 a.m. to service time Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. Walter Patzwitz officiating. Interment will follow in Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery in New Wells.
Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church Building Fund, the Church Cemetery Fund, Saxony Lutheran High School or the charity of your choice.

PERRYVILLE, Mo. — Rodger A. Porter, 56, of Elsberry, Mo., formerly of Perry County, died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
He was born Sept. 11, 1952, in St. Charles, Mo., son of Lloyd J. and Lenora C. Head Porter.
Porter was a U.S. Marine veteran of the Vietnam War.
Survivors include two sons, Jason Porter of O'Fallon, Mo., James Porter of Harvester, Mo.; two daughters, Amy and Haley Porter of St. Charles, Mo.; his mother of Warrenton, Mo.; three brothers, Ronald Porter of Edgar Springs, Mo., Dennis Porter of Elsberry, David Porter of Old Monroe, Mo.; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father and a brother.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to service time Saturday at Whitewater Christian Church near Yount, Mo.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Melvin Weiss officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Young and Sons Funeral Home in Perryville is in charge of arrangements.
